VanessaJuly 6 – September 24

Artist reception: July 8, 7:30 – 9pm in the Barn at Pendle Hill.

Shelley Hedlund is an educator and artist, working in and around Philadelphia. With a Masters of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Shelley has experience in a diverse array of media, ranging from printmaking to installation art, to traditional drawing. Throughout her life Shelley has experimented with art as a means of self-expression and as a vector for social change. She has taught for Moore College of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Fleisher Art Memorial, and Mural Arts among others.

Art has helped shape Shelley's outlook. As a young person, she turned to art as her primary means of understanding the world. Today, she helps other young people develop their sense of self through the visual arts. She is currently the program manager at the Multicultural Youth eXchange (MYX), helping to open the minds of young people through the arts.

Her next endeavor is combining health and the arts as she is in school at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City. Shelley was introduced to Quaker life when she attended Earlham College, and currently attends Chestnut Hill meeting.
