Dancing Life Sculpture
For years participants in Pendle Hill’s meeting for worship have shared the Barn meeting room with a small, lively clay sculpture of four dancers. Recently the sculpture’s creator, Judith Simmons, returned to Pendle Hill and told the story behind her piece.
“During 1985-86 I was a sojourner at Pendle Hill and I worked with clay. The studio was down a perilous flight of stone steps. Sally Palmer was teacher, a calm and reassuring presence. “The sculpture I created is representative of the joyous cooperative spirit I felt all around me. When I left I gave it to the community. It belonged there. Recently on a visit I was surprised and gratified when I saw the dancing figures in the meeting room. Thank you."
Pendle Hill’s art studio is now in a lovely, light-filled space in Firbank. There’s still a “joyous cooperative spirit”! Come for a visit, a workshop or retreat such as Creative Spirit: Paper Arts Collage, or a full term in the Resident Program.
