Carmen Lamothe
Carmen Lamothe was living in Philadelphia and was active in a Unitarian Universalist congregation when she came to Pendle Hill as a Spirit-Centered Service Scholar for 2005-6. "As I examined my need to focus on important life decisions and to gather religious inspiration and strength, I came to understand that Pendle Hill was an ideal place for me to gather support for the next level of life.
My daily living at Pendle Hill is an abundant experience where I balance my core work, sit-down meals, conversation and reflection. I have class once a week, and I'll sometimes process what was shared or presented in further reflection. I have been impressed and moved by the holistic and profound level of knowledge and insights presented in the courses I've taken. Although I'm still processing some of what's been presented, I'm gradually incorporating pieces into my life. One example is from the 'Conscious Communication' course. The facilitator, Erva Baden, led an activity where we monitored our bodily response to emotions and how that is connected to what we are meant to express.
The experience of small group sharing with the other Spirit-Centered Service Scholars has been really rewarding for me. This group has allowed for profound sharing to occur so that we can more thoroughly examine ourselves and more sufficiently understand our relations with others and towards issues of social action.
I also enjoy interactions with various types of people in an open, welcoming setting. And I like the art studio and the overall inspiration to be more creative!
