May I Dwell in Astonishment: An Artist's Prayer
Martha Kemper Tuesday, 31 May 2011
What is the artistic impulse, inherent in us all? Perhaps it springs from something we might call 'the astonishment of living,' a capacity to be moved by the life before us. This performance/conversation explores life, literature, nature and world events for touchstones of astonishment. Martha is a professional actor who uses the intimate power of theatre to create performances that inspire and connect people to each other. She has been a roster artist with the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour and has led workshops around the country, including at Friends General Conference and for Friends Association in Higher Education. Associate Professor of Theatre at Penn State Abington College, she is a member of Abington Friends Meeting. Her autobiographical play, Me, Miss Krause and Joan, was recently called an "emotionally powerful and spiritually insightful play about passion and perseverance."
