Transitions: The Spirituality of Changing Times
From Thin Air to Solid Ground: Learning to Trust God’s Guidance
Pat McBee Tuesday, 26 January 2010
Patricia McBee has learned that committing one's life to living under God's guidance can lead to many transitions. As she has felt herself called to one activity and then another, she has from time to time felt that she is stepping out into thin air only to find herself drawn more closely to God.
The Spirit has led Pat McBee to various forms of service in the Religious Society of Friends since the early 1970s when she moved to Philadelphia to work for Friends General Conference. She has led couples retreats with her husband Brad Sheeks, offered retreats for women in the 1990s, and has traveled in the ministry teaching about Quaker spirituality and Quaker process. Most recently, and somewhat surprisingly to her, she has found herself first as the Capital Campaign director for the greening of Friends Center in Philadelphia and now as Friends Center's interim executive director, carrying a call to help Friends respond to the climate crisis.
