Arts Teacher Wins First Prize, Best in Show

width=Pendle Hill is pleased to announce that a sculpture by Arts and Spirituality teacher Carol Sexton won first prize in the Professional Sculpture category at the Community Arts Center Annual Member's Exhibition on June 28. The sculpture, entitled "Balancing Act," also garnered the Best in Show award.

Carol notes that she "loves working with stone and rocks," and that inspiration for much of her work comes from nature. The idea for "Balancing Act" came from walking on the beach and picking up stones rounded by the waves. "Stacking them up is a fun thing to do when you're on the beach; it's kind of precarious." Carol sought to "capture an interesting arrangement," which expresses the idea of balance.

Carol Sexton's upcoming Resident Program courses include Spirit Taking Form: Clay and Stone as Spiritual Grounding (Fall term 2009) and Sacred Image, Sacred Word: An Exploration of Book Arts (Winter term 2010).
