Marcelle Martin Is New Core Teacher
Niyonu Spann, Dean of Pendle Hill, has announced that Marcelle Martin will serve as a new Pendle Hill core teacher for 2006-2007. Marcelle, who is well known among Philadelphia area Quakers for her teaching, peace witness and retreat leadership, will live on campus as part of the Pendle Hill resident community.
"We are truly blessed to have Marcelle Martin join the Pendle Hill teaching staff,” Niyonu Spann says. "She is a much sought after teacher and speaker as Friends around the country yearn for guidance in deepening their spiritual lives." Niyonu expects that Marcelle will "challenge us in living up to the Light as Pendle Hill seeks to further serve the Religious Society of Friends and other seekers on the path."
Marcelle has taught several courses and served as a spiritual nurturer at Pendle Hill in the past few years. Niyonu notes that students "have offered consistent praise and appreciation for her teaching ability and spiritual nurturance." Marcelle’s 2006-2007 course topics include prayer, spiritual discernment and Quakerism.
Marcelle Martin completed the Shalem Institute program in Spiritual Guidance and the School of the Spirit’s program on Contemplative Living and Prayer. She is a member of Chestnut Hill Monthly Meeting in Philadelphia (PA).
Pendle Hill has published two of her writings: Invitation to a Deeper Communion (2003) and Holding One Another in the Light (2006), both Pendle Hill pamphlets on Quaker worship.
