Quakers and Social Action
Balancing a focus on historical and contemporary Quaker engagement, the course will cover the following topics:- The history, theology, definitions, and practices of "Quaker Social Action"
- Working with contemporary social movements; ally work; and confronting the eco-crisis
- Skills, support, and sustainability for being in the movement for the long-haul.
Each of these days is likely to bridge content areas and time periods and to include film, reading, guest speaker/trainers, and active experimentation.
Three Saturdays: April 14, May 12, and June 9 from 9:30am-5:30pm. The course is $400 and includes lunch on each of the three Saturdays.

Michael Gagne serves as the Eco-Justice organizer for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and as the executive director of Envision Peace Museum, an emerging museum dedicated to peace and active nonviolence. A graduate of the Green Corps Environmental Leadership Program, Michael has worked on a number of grassroots campaigns in Canada and the U.S. and has facilitated workshops on ecophilosophy and social change for a wide variety of organizations.
