How the Greenhouse Works

- Almost all the sunlight enters the greenhouse through the south roof. When the light is absorbed and emitted as heat, the heat is trapped in the greenhouse. At our latitude, a south roof at 45 degrees collects the most sunlight, and therefore provides the warmest greenhouse.
- Seedlings and starter plants arranged inside the greenhouse benefit from the constant warm temperature.
- Some plants need shade and protection from rain, and can be placed under the eaves.
- The cob and strawbale walls absorb heat by day and emit it by night, and provide insulation, so the temperature in the greenhouse remains relatively constant.
- There is also a small nook with a bench. Many people look forward to meditating or simply spending quiet time in the warm greenhouse.
